LONDON MARKET REPORT. Following is a copy of the report, doted February 29th, received by Mr Newton King from R. and W. Davidson, Glasgow;— '• . n,. < Butter. —The market (during the past week has been very dull and prices all round show a reduction of , Is to 2s per cwt. The threatened coal strike, we are afraid, is now going to take place. Up to the moment,,of writing the Government has b?pn unable to get the owners ayd miners to come to an arrangement, and unless they are successful this afternoon the whole of the 'minors ,of- this country will stop work to-night. Buyers all over the country are very nervous and absolutely refuse to stock a single package more than they ac--1 . . \ tunlly require; until there is a set-1 tlement the outlook is not good, but in the event of a settlement there is sure to be an active demand, and probably an improvement in price. Continental Butters: There has been a dull dragging market and prices are somewhat easier. The weather
conditions at present are exceptionally mild for this time of the year and j this will hasten the Home production. Telegraphic advices yesterday from Copenhagen state that the mar-1 ket there is dull and the quotation j to-day has been declared unchanged. Danish and Swedish: Arrivals cf Danish this week show a decrease oi ! 725 casks. There was a very quiet market and buyers were successful in filling their requirements at Is to 2s less than last week's figures. A fair quantity has been left over unsold; wo quote choicest quality 134 s to 1355. Siberian: Arrivals this week show a considerable falling off, the total quantity being less than 1500 casks. The market has ruled flow ■and prices are a little easier, choicest quality 125 s to 1275, ordinary finest ~1225, to 1245. Colonial Butters.—Australian: me arrivals this week comprise the e.b. Malwa with 44,993 boxes, and the s.s., Buteshire with 2337 boxes. The market has been very dull and drooping and prices all round show a reduction of 2s per cwt. Even at the lower prices the demand is very slow, buyers still holding off. We quote choicest quality 1265, exceptionally 1275, secondary butters are a little more plentiful and are obtainable at 122 s to' 1245: Unsaltcd continues
to be a slow sale, choicest goods are easily obtainable at 026*, secondary litis* to 1245. New Zealand: The demand continues to be very slow and we believe some agents have still a''considerable quantity of butter ex' tlie ■ Corinthic unsold. The s.s. Ruahin'c with 50,000 boxes is now discharging, and the Papar.oa with 4800 boxes is due to dock to-day. Butters ex -these steamers are being freely offered at 130 s for choicest quality. Imports to the United Kingdom: The total figures up to February 21th of this year, and for the corresponding period of 1909, 1910, and 1911 ar? as follows: 1909, 723,409 cwts; 1910, 699,519 cwts; 1911, 791,710 cwts; 1912, cwts.. Cheese.—Canadian : The demand Is somewhat brisker and prices continue very firm. Choicest white and colour-' ed 73s 6d to 755. New Zealand: During the past few days the demand has been much brisker, and prices are again a shade higher. Choicest white ,ac<l coloured. 72s to 72s 6d.
