SWIMMING NOTES.
(By IA-mphi Bios.) Conformable to promise, the abovenamed now proceeds to supply as concisely as possible a short history of the races for the Handicap Cup. The first race (loOydg) took place on February 21st. The entrants who swam in the races : were as follows: i F. H. Masters, E. H. Kivell, I C. S. Kelly, ' ' C. Bennett, E. C. Jebb, ; i C. C. Whittington. In the first heat for the .150yds rKivell (scr) was first, with Jebb (30sec). second. Bennett (30sec) also started. Time, 2min 47sec. Masters _(9sec) was first in the second heat, Kelly (30sec), being second. Whittington (25sec) also started. Time, 2min 29sec. The final resulted; Masters 1, Kelly 2, Kivell 3. Time, 2min 26 2-ss6c. Points for the' Cup then stood : Masters 3 Kelly 2 Kivell 1 ,The 225vds distance came off on February 29th. Bennett (65sec) won the first heat, with Kelly (4-ssec) second. Kivell (scr) also competed. Time, 4min 19sec. In the second heat Masters (4sec) won from Jebb (65sec). Whittington also started. Time, 4min 22sec. In the final the result was: Masters 1, Kelly 2, Bennett 3. Time, 4min 13 3 ssec. , The points then stood: Masters ...‘ ... 6 Kelly 4 Kivell ... 1 Bennett ... ... 1 On March 7th the 100yds distance was swum. Masters (scr) and Kelly (20sec) got the places in the first heat, Whittington (26sec) not troubling to finish. The time was Imm 47|sec. Bennett (23sec) was first and Kivell (4sec) second in the second heat, Jebb (2-ssec) also starting. The time was Imin 3osec. ■ ; r ■ The placing in,, the, final was: Kelly, 1, Bennett 2, Kivell 3. Time, Imin 32 I-ssec. ' The points stood: " Kelly ‘ ... ... 7 Masters , ... ... If Bennett 3 Kivell 2 The 75yds race .(swuhl on Marc4i 1 21st) resulted: Kivell, ssec, 1; Jebb, 21sec, 2; Masters, 3. Time, 72sec. Bennett (llsec) and’Kelly (11 sec) also started. This, race made the points look as ■ follows; Kelly ... 7 Masters ... ... 7 Kivell 5 Bennett ... ... 3 Jebb 2 On March 28th the 50yds distance was swum in one heat, which resulted as followsJebb, 12sec, 1; Bennett, llsec, 2; Masters, scratch, 3. Time, 41 1-osec. Also started,: Kelly (7sec) and Whittington (12sec), .The points then stood: Masters 5 Kelly 7 Kivell ... ... 5 Bennett ... ... 5 Jebb ...' ... o The final race, 445yds, occurred on i April 4th, and resulted: Jebb, 120 sec, 1; Masters, scratch, 2; Kelly, 55s.ee, 3. Also started: Bennett, 95seo. i Time, 9min 47sec. The points then-stood: s Masters ... 1.0 Jebb 8 Kelly 8 i Kivell ... ... 5 Bennett 5 I On April Bth Kelly and Jebb swam off for second place, over 75yds, Jebb winning in Imin 13sec, leaving the winners of prizes: I Masters 10 Jebb ... ... .9 The account would not be complete without mention of the officials, who acquitted themselves well on all orcas’ons.
