THE GYMKHANA.
POSTPONED OWING TO BAD WEATHER.
TILL THURSDAY WEEK
Owing to the unfortunate climatic; conditions, the Executive Committee of the Stratford A. and P. Society decided to postpone the gymkhana meeting until next Thursday week, 18st April On Easter Monday morning, Stratford awoke to find that the conditions promised a typical Ta'ranaki wet day A soft, northerly wind ,was blowing with occasional heavy misty showeis, and every indication of more to follow.
Die people living at a distance from Stratford seemed to have made up their mnids at an early hour that the weather was going to be unfavourable. The Te Wera train brought a very moderate number of people to the town, and on the spec'al train from N.vv Plymouth they could be cpimtcu on one's fingers. The mail train had a fair number of people in beard, for Strafford, but it also conveyed a goof! hmr.y away. The next train to arrive was that from the South, from which only a few got off. The northern train scheduled to arrive here at 10.25 brought a good number to the town, and about this time a fair number of vehicles . conveying sightseers from the country around Stratford began to arrive. ' , During the arrival of the trains, t{i;> weather had become staadily worse. Very, few people had arrived on th<* show grounds,(excepting the Executive Committee., the officials, and a few enthusiasts, the bulk of the arrivals apparently h'.ving decided to rema.u in town until the weather cleared. After the arrival of the last train frj.ji the south, the Chairman of the A. and P. Society, Mr W. Kirk wood, who had >een closely watching tlv* trend of affairs, called a meeting of the Executive Committee, who reluctantly decided that the only course ope.i- for them to pursue was to postpone the meeting, which they accordingly did, until Thursday, April 18t'h. The committee were sorry to disappoint those who had decided to attend, but they had no otaer alternative. '.
It is to be hoped that the date chosen will be a lucky one. Thursday of this week would have been chosen except for the fact that it will not be a general half holiday.
