INCITING A STRIKE. .._,, l Auckland, April 4 T The strike which (started among' the men employed on „the Auckland) city drainage works I '.and' spread to municipal workers' wag jtHe subject of an''action in the Magistrate's Court today, the Inspector of Awards claiming £2OO from the General Labourers' Union for a breach of the Arbitration Court award in inciting an unlawful strike. The secretary of the Union admitted that a meeting was held at which 50 members were present at which ii. resolution was passed endorsing the Union's objection to' sub-contracting. Mr A. E. Skclton, counsel for the Union, objected to witness answering any questions which might incriminate him as a member of the Union. Mr Gohns, Inspector of Awards, protested that lie would lie placed' in a difficult position if lie coukl not get the information lie desired from witness. Magistrate Kettle said he recognised it was difficult but could not help it. At this stage the adjournment took place, after which. Mr Selwyn Mays, representing the Crown Prosecutor, appeared for the Department of Labour and an adjournment was made till Thursday to allow him to get up the case.
