In a match against Ceylon, the Australian scratch team, including Arnst and Crouch, scored 181 in their first innings. Ceylon responded with 170. RUGBY REFEREES. Hastings, April 5. The annual conference of tne New Zealand Referees' Association was neid to-day. Mr. W. Keith( vicepresident) was in the chair. The delegale's present represented Wanganui, Taranaki, Wellington, Southland, V/airurapa, Manawatu, Auckland, Napier, and Hastings. Tne decisions giver, by the executive daring 1911 were confirmed, with slight alterations. DRAUGHTS CHAMPIONSHIP. Wellington, April 4. The New Zealand draughts championsaip tournament will be opened at the Working Men's Club, Wellington, to-morrow. Entries close tonight, and it is expected there will be sixteen. Penman, the Australian champion, is on a holiday visit to Scotland, so the tournament will probably be more open than that of last year'. Among the probable competitors are Borehain, ex-Australasian champion, Brodie and Hilliker, exNew Zealand champions, Enckson and Leggatt, ex-Wellington champions., Bruce (New Plymouth), winner of the handicap tournament at last championship meeting, and Calderwood, of Huntlv, an ex-Scottish player of note. Messrs. Speight and Co., Dunedm, have given a handsome silver cup'to replace that won outright by Penman, and a canvass for the prize funds has been most'successful.; This! is the first' New Zealand championship to be held in Wellington since' 1898.
