Hawera, April 2. j At, a greeting of. the Pa tea Harbqur Hoard yesterday, the, evidence of the preliminary enquiry by the Marine Department into the mishap by the steamer Kapuni a few weeks ago, was considered in committee. The following finding was reported The committee, having considered the evidence, are of opinion that there is no blame attached to the pilot, the port, or the Board, in connection with the striking 1 of the vessel on the eastern breakwater.” A magisterial enquiry pyill not be held. Auckland, April 1. A party, consisting of Mr and Mrs E. R. Bloomfield and her little daughter and Mrs Rathbone and her daughter, had a perilous adventure while returning from the West Coast or Sunday. 'ln company with two other motor cars they were travelling on a road along the face of a cliff, witli a sheer drop of 25 to 30 feet. Mr Bloomfield’s motor was driven to the edge to avoid a quagmire and, the ground giving way, the car toppled over the embankment and skidded until brought up by a tree. The occupants scrambled up the bank, leaving the car in a very dangerous position. A party was sent from town with gear, which proved inadequate. Another attempt is being made to-day to restore the car to the road. As a sequel to the trouble which occurred at the general meeting of the Auckland Ladies’ Hockey. Association last week, when the president, Mr T. Gresham, called for a policeman to remove a male delegate on the ground that male delegates were not allowed, and six delegates left the room. Mr Gresham has been asked to resign. This decision was come to at a meeting to-night of delegates from nine dubs and other members to the number of over forty. There was only one dissentient. It is stated that if Mr Gresham does not resign a new association will be formed. Hastings, April 1. A three-year-old son of J. S. Hunt found a phial of tabloids containing strychnine and other drugs. He told his mother he had eaten all the lollies. Medical assistance was procured, hut the child died within an hour. Westport, April 2. The Stockton Coal Co. has nearly completed the chain of bores required to link up the lower seam with the outcrop. Thus they will definitely prove the area which is coal-bearing. The second to last bore shows a seam
Bft. thick. The standard quality of one of the bores just completed shows a bore 18ft. thick. Both are of splendid quality.
