Cambridge started quicker, but the boats were level at ball a mile, when a heavy hailstorm was encountered. After three-quarters of a mile had been covered Oxford steadily drew ahead, and led by two lengths at Hammersmith Bridge. Oxford took Cambridge’s water half a mile later, am. theiicoforward it was a procession. He spite Cambridge’s plucky spurts, Oxford won by eight lengths in 22uuu 5 see.
