;[ ,, / ANNUAL MEETING. annual meeting of shareholders of the Stratford Co-opera-tive Iqiiilding Society was held on Monday evening at the registered office of the Society. There was a good attendance and Mr N. J. King, chairmanTqf directors, was in the chair. With reference to the sum of £3OO which was offered for sale, the offer of Mr A. Scherer was accepted, subject to the security offered by him being approved of by the Valuation Committee'. 1 .

On, the motion of Mr G. Smart, the balance-sheet and statement of assets and liabilities, which have already been circulated among the shareholders, was taken as read. Thct'chairman reviewed these at length,' and considered that the Society! Could congratulate itself upon the inc’rcaseed revenue in all departments over the last year’s figures, which 'had enabled the sum of £2075 beyond last year’s figures to be lent to the shareholders. The accrued profits of.the Society had increased over 2 : fS ’2d ; per share. This must be considered highly satisfactory. He also moiltiohed that no losses'of any kind had helm suffered on the Society’s invostmfehts. In conclusion, the chairman moved, and Mr Smart seconded, that tMt directors’ report and balance sheet lie adopted, and this was carried uii'an im o usly. The I‘next business done was the ejection of members to the Board of Directors, Messrs. N. J. King, G. Smart,Mind J. Brayshaw, the retiring directors* being the only gentlemen nominated, were duly declared reelected! Mr. T. H. Penn was re-elect-ed auditor.

The 'usual honorarium was voted to the Chjiu'jiian of Directors for his services the Society during the past year, "‘The chairman suitably replied, a«d thanked the shareholders for their appreciation, and also for the help he had received during the year from the other members of the Board. Mr. W. Morinson asked if the Society jjhad done anything definite in the matter of forming a second group. He thopght that such a group would g't considerable support from the country- 1 members. The Chairman replied" hJUit the matter was under consideration, and if gone on with would be formed on a very much extended basis with larger appropriations than those, made in the present group. Special facilities would be offered to shareholders and settlors to become members of tins group. Of course, before a'mHliing definite were done, the whole gc'heme would he submitted to to the shHhoholders. On the motion of Mr. Smart it was decided I ‘to place on record their appreciation of the secretary’s services. A ’.mire tangible recognitions of these services* was tendered in the shape of a bonus’. The Chairman stated that the Society. 1 ' was specially fortunate in haring","\lr. Coleman as secretary, and owing'to bis energy and careful work the Sb’c'ety’s income had greatly increased, enabling more loans to be granted. The clerical work could not be better performed than it was done at the present time. The Visual vote of thanks to the chair CAmmated the meeting. At IV subsequent meeting of the Beard "‘of Directors Mr. N. J. King was r/'-olected chairman, and Messrs.
