At Sand Point, Idaho, a freight train of sixty cars struck a rockslide on the Great Northern line. The engine rolled over an embankment and three cars were wrecked. The engine driver, fireman and brakesman were killed. A huge quantity of rock •loosened during excavation work collapsed, completely blocking the line. Ottawa, March 25. A protest has been made to the United States against the proposal to take additional water supply for Chicago drainage by canal from the Great Lakes. The scheme is likely to lower the level of canals on the St. Lawrence River route and gravely interfere with Canadian shipping. Constantinople, March 25. 1 A Greek has assassinated Kopassas Effendi, the Governor of Samos, with a revolver. The crime is attributed to Effendi’s Ottoman sympathies. Teheran, March 25. Salar-ed-Dowler refuses the Government’s suggestion to quit Persia in exchange for a pension. He demands the district of Kermanshah as a principality.
