IN THE COURTS.
CASE OF ALLEGED SLANDER AT MASTERTON. (Per Press Association.") Masterton, March 21. At tlio' Supreme Court, a case of alleged slander was commenced yesterday, and was not concluded at the luncheon adjournment to-day, in which Mrs. E. Humphries, of Clareville, claimed £6OO from Frank G. Kcmpton, farmer, of Clareville, the grounds of slander being that defendant had stated that plaintiff, who was sister of defendant, had committed adultery on several occasions with a man named Donald Finlayson. Plaintiff and several witnesses stated that it was impossible for adultery to be committed as alleged by defendant. For the defence, defendant, Emily . Kempton, and Harry Tyempton, gave evidence as to seeing misconduct.
