The Rugby League’s takings from matches last year were £15,889, an increase of £2477 on the previous year. WELLINGTON DEFEATS MARLBOROUGH. Wellington, March 19. Tho representative cricket match between Wellington and Marlborough resulted in a win for Wellington by an innings and 122 runs. With 71 to their credit on tho first innings, Marlborough put up 112 in their second. Chisholm (29) and Jackson (23) were their best batsmen. The bowling of Finlayson and Grimmett was too good for the visitors. Towards the end cf the match Wellington fielding got very slack. Grimmett took three wickets for 28, Finlayson two for 6, and Nunn two for 7. SPORTS PROTECTION LEAGUE. Westport, March 19. At a large and representative mooting to-night, after an address by Mr. W. Paape, secretary, a branch of the Sports Protection League was formed at Westport, with officers representing all branches ef local sport. Feeling reference was made to the deprivation last year of the Westport Jockey Club ot its only totalisator permit.
