The race for the 75yds distance for the Swimming Club’s 'Champion Cup will be held an the baths on Thursday afternoon. A meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Provincial Scottish Society will be held in Mr. D. Bhtchart s rooms on Wednesday evening next at 7.30 o’clock. Amongst tlio visitors to the Opunake''races yesterday was the Hon. T. Mackenzie and his private secretary, Mr. Lend, Johnson,- and the Hon. Wi F. .Carncrosk.. >, (hr ‘ A reminder is given of the fruit and jelly social which takes place at the Primitive Methodist Church this evening. An excellent programme of musical items and recitations has been prepared, and at the close of the entertainment an auction sale of vegetables, fruit, etc., will take place. On Sunday a fairly large party proceeded from the Stratford .house to the top of Mount Egmont. They found the track up the mountain in excellent condition, there being hardly any snow, what there was being quite easy to negotiate. They proceeded down to the Dawson Falls house by the Falls track, which was found to bo in a Very bad condition, there being a good deal of hard ice to be covered. The mayoral election will take place on April 24th, and as the time for electors being enrolled is now growing short, the roll closing on April 10th, ratepayers, residents and tenants who are qualified to vote should make a point of enrolling at once if they have not already done so. Every tenant of an office, shop, or room paying £lO per annum or more as rent is entitled to he enrolled. All persons over twenty-one years of age who have been resident -in the district for three months are also to he placed on the roll. Wives may be enrolled in the husband’s right. Forms for .enrolment may be obtained at the Town Clerk’s office, Borough Chambers, Broadway.
