Arrived: Liustol, from Westport. THE ATHENIC. Hobart, March 18. Arrived at 9, Athenic. The Athenic -sails for Wellington at noon <?n Tuesday. One hundred and forty-six passengers were landed at Hobart, 'whilst 512 are proceeding to New Zealand. THE PORT OF WELLINGTON. Wellington, March 18. Some interesting figures dealing with the progress cf the Port of Wellington were given by the Chairman (Mr. Fletcher) at the annual meeting of the Board to-day. Goods passed inwards totalled 479,806 tons, as - against 435,439 tons in the previous year, being an increase of 4.4,307 tons. This volume of business had only been exceeded on one occasion— via., in ■ 1907-8, known as the boom year. For the period to 30th September transhipments amounted to 138.235 tons, an increase of 11,522 tons. This is a record for the port, and bears testimony to the excellent facilities given. The tonnage of the vessels entering the port also exceeded the previous record, the number of vessels being 3637, with a- net tonnage of 2,998,204. The past year has been an exceptional one, the tonnage of oversea shipping having risen to 2,096,307, and is 160 v 015 tons higher than any previous year. The Chairman added that the financial position of the Board was most satisfactory, and was never in better condition. PHASES OF THE MOON. MARCH— D. H. M. S.
