A special holiday train brought nearly i i one} thousand people - from Christchurch to-day. Unfortunately the weather was dull and showery. Special interest was attached to this excursion, as the Mayor and Borough Council invited the Mayor and City Council and city legislators to visit Tim-aru, and welcomed and entertained them at lunch, and showed them round the town and harbour. Christchurch 'speakers! at the luncheon were the Mayo!!"- the Hon. Ji. Barr, G. J. Russell, W. H. Trigg .(Christchurch “Press”), and J. East (“Times”). The Mayor of. Christchurch suggested the formation of a Canterbury League to push on the progress of provincial matters. Mr Russell predicted tliat under the intense farming, with dairying as its chief -side, New Zealand would support twenty millions. Steady rain at Geraldine all the morning caused the postponement of the St. Patrick’s Day isports.
