Watken visited Pitcairn Island, which was swept by a hurricane in September. The islanders since have been short of supplies, and have suffered a good deal of distress. The Watken lef t all spare*stores to assist till a relief ship arrived. Several islanders des:red to migrate to Sydney. Mr. Beehy announced that the Government was not going to the country before it pleased it to go. The Labour Party had got Wade clown and was sitting on his head. They would not got off till it suited them. In the Assembly the Bursary Endowment Bill was read ,a second time.

Mr. Carmichael, replying to criticisms, said it was a misconception to regard the Government as subsidising denominational schools, because they were throwing the bursaries open to all comers. The State Premier has submitted to Mr. Fisher and the other Premiers a scheme for bolding an Empire exhibition in one of the capital cities, estimated to cost £600,000, the State where it is held guaranteeing a quarter ,of a million and the Federal Government a hundred thousand, the balance being distributed among the other States on a population basis. The manager and secretary of the Australian League party touring America, writing to the press regarding Sir -William Russell’s denial that Australian coinage was refused i» Now Zealand, .stated that the Wellington Post Office and various business places declined to accept it. He was directed to an office where the coins could be cashed at 25 per cent, discount. The party also received a written offer from a business man to the same effect.
