HARVEST FESTIVAL.
CELEBRATION BY SALVATION ARMY.
The Harvest festival is bung o - tin rfasticallv celebrated by the local members of the Salvation Army. Good cervices were held on Sunday, when Briefer Vince and District Commander took a leading part On Monday afternoon the sale of gifts was formally opened b\ Mis Hine. a large number of filends o the Armv being present. Tiro proceedings were opened with praver by Staff-Captain . C. Wallace. The boys' from the Salvation Army institution, at Eltlmm, then gave a finely.,■ondered song. Brigadier Vince, a stirring speech, said ho was verj pleased to have them with them that afternoon, tho boys from the Heine and the man who made that Home possible—Envoy Jenkins. He referred to the magnificence of the gift, and trusted that the boys would grow up true men. T r i. i Envoy Jenkins responded. He had joined the Salvation Army, not because is was better than any othei institution of its kind, but because it gave him greater opportunities to serve God. He was now that satisfied with tho management and conduct of the Home. The boys had done well—in education better than the bovs of the public schools. "hey were receiving • training which would make them good “cow spankers” or good politicians. (Laughter.) ' Brigadier Vince then introduced Mrs Hine to those present. Mrs Hine, in declaring the Harvest Festival open, said that she had told Brigadier Vince that this was the first time she had ever spoken in public. If she wanted to make a speech, she thought she would have to do as Envoy Jenkins had done—join the Army. (Applause.) In the evening the Salvation Army Eltliam Band played selections, and the bovs from the Home gave musical items.* The financial result of the gathering was highly Satisfactory.
