Davis, alias Thomas Tobbling, an escapee from Taihapo gaol, where he was awaiting trial on a charge of assault and robbery, alleged to have been committed at Opotiki; was arrested by Sergeant Hutton and Detective Mitchell on the s.s. Victoria on Saturday. He was brought before Magistrate Burton and remanded to appear at Taihapo on Wednesday. Ester Revoly, single, about 26 years of ago, employed as a housemaid at Racecourse Hill, was found dertd in bed at 7 o’clock on Friday night. She had been about the house as usual dining the evening, and appeared in her usual state of health, except that she complained of a headache. When called for tea she was found in a pool of. blood, having cut her throat. She had been in indifferent health for some weeks and it is believed that a- sudden recurrence of her illness partly unhinged her reason.

As a. sequel to the disturbance caused by a number of youths, who assembled last Saturday night outside a Chinese fruit shop, James Bryno, a fruit hawker, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court to-day with doing an act which caused persons to congregate so as to impede traffic in Cashel Street on the night of February 21th. The case was adjourned till Tuesday, defendant only having been served with the summons yesterday afternoon. Auckland, March 4. Ihe Methodist Conference decided to establish homo mission stations at Runauga (Nelson), Gonville (Wangauui), Wellington South and Gisborne. An extra minister was appointed for Christchurch North, to reside at New Brighton.
