At the Magistrate's Court ja case was heard in which Councillor Parker obtained pos'session of 932 perches of land, in Collis Hollow, in exchange for land taken by the Council for widening High Street. The summons was issued on an affidavit of Councillor Corry, who claimed that Cr Parker, being concerned in the purchase of the land from the Council tfor £IOO, under the Municipal Cor- * porations Act, is ineligible to sit as a councillor. Counsel for Cr, Parker objected to the short notice of the summons, and the Magistrate agreed to adjourn the case till Thursday. Masterton, March 1. At the Police Court this morning a Territorial named Henry "Williams was fined 40s and costs for refusing to take the oath of allegiance as required by the Defence Act, 1909. Accused told the Magistrate that he would not take the oath. Wanganui, Maxell 1. In the Magistrate's Court this •morning two youths named Lee and Sutherland were sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment in Auckland gaol for stealing a saddle. The same pair were recently remanded on a charge of breking and entering at Taumarunui.
