After considerable di* cu&sion and the defeat of variolic r< solutions on the question of federation, , either with the Federation of Labour or the Mills Unity Scheme of Fcderat: ion, the delegates ct the furniture 1 (trade conference passed the following resolution, "That the federation s'.'iall enter into no agreements with employers for more than two years." It was also resolved to recommend rOi alteration in the Workers' Compe us&tion Act, so as to make insurance* of workers compulsory; to preven t insurance companies compromising in cases of accidents; that the Gov eminent be requested to bring in a c 1 lause to define when a worker is deemed to be dismissed; that when the Labour Department refused to take* action in breaches of awards, and the union took the matter up and wns successful in court, it should be in all expenses; that unib ns be recommended to include in t heir membership such branches of tr. ide as are not already included; that a duty be placed on foreign goods mi anufactured by sweated labour, so i s to prevent competition with lex 'ally-made articles; that Wellington pi ovide the executive for the ensuing ye ar.
