(Per Press Association.) Wellington, February 28. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Accountants’ and Auditors’ Association, the report showed that there was a strong membership. The sound finances justified the continuance of the existence of the association. Officers .were elected as follows: President, R. Wilberforco (Wellington); vicepresidents, G. Holloran (Auckland), H. Baily (Taranaki), J. Port (Wellington), A. Virtue (Canterbury), C. Statham (Dunedin), and W. Ott (Southland). The next annual meeting will bo held at Christchurch.
Christchurch, February 28
At a meeting of the Farmers’ Union a report from a meeting of the Farmers’ Political Protection Federation was approved to the effect that, after due consideration of the .■relictions between the Farmers’ Union and the Federation, and 1 seeing that 1 the combination of the two bodies is’causing friction, and may do injury to the Farmers’ Union, it is advisable that the Federation be allowed to withdraw from the Farmers’ Union in order to permit of freer action in the future operations of both associations.
The Uruguayan .Agricultural Commissioners arrived here ..to-day 1 , and leave to-morrow night /for the North Island.
Gore, February 28. At Otamita this morning Mr. Cross was driving a motor car to Gore with his mother as passenger. It is thought that the pin came out of the steering gear .and the car became unmanageable. It went down a steep bank, but was not capsized, as it was almost pulled up when on ■ the* edge of the bank, which crumbled; The car turned turtle, but the passengers and car were saved by some willows. The people were uninjured., Taihape, February 29.
The first show of the Rangitikci A. and P. Association was hold here yesterday. It was a great success. Five thousand were present. The Herefords were a magnificent exhibition, mostly Short's stock. The horses "were very strong in numbers and quality. Sheep were well represented. The home industries section was very large. Mr E. Short secured the Hereford Cup and Mr A. R. Fannin annexed the Romney championship. Mr Short’s Dinizulu was the champion hack and Mrs A. E. Gibbons’ Silver Head won in the pony class. The judges praised the entries as /a whole. Masterton, February 29. A farm hand named Thomas Scampion, 45, died this morning as a result of injuries received by falling off a straw stack at Te Oreore yesterday. His neck was dislocated.
