A STEAMER OVERDUE.

TWENTY-SIX DAYS OUT FROM THE CHATHAM 8. SEARCH TO BE MADS. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, Febr mry 2b. I b" Chatham Islands Fishing Company’s steamer Hirnitangi is now twenty-six days out from the Chathams, being quite a week overdue. The longest previous trip occupied nineteen days. It has been decided to despatch the steamer Gertie to-morrow night to ascertain if the Hirnitangi has been reported at the Chatharns. The vessel will call at Lyttelton first and will then take a zig-gag course. The Amokii’a will probably sail on a-similar errand later. TWO PASSENGERS BELIEVED TO BE ON BOARD. Wellington, February 26. The Minister for Marino has given instructions for the Amokura to proceed direct to the Chathams to search for the Hirnitangi. She is, however, undergoing repairs and will not get away till Thursday. The Hirnitangi can rig up canvas in case her machinery breaks down, so if the hull is all right she will be able to make port. She is amply provisioned. It is not yet known whether she reached the Chathams on the outward voyage. Among the passengers are believed to be a son of Mr W. G. Foster, managing director of the company, and Mr John McLean, formerly of McLean and Archibald, ironmongers, Wellington, but now owner of the fishing station at the Chatharns.
