Melbourne, February 25. Thirty thousand witnessed the final of the six days’ cycling race. Seven teams remained in, and yesterday morning six were level. Doettzauer and Bell, of Germany, were a lap behind. The latter, after 141 hours’ riding, failed to recover the deficit, and retired. .
There was splendid sprinting in‘tli& last stages. Hehir headed Gascoyne past the 2000 miles’ marie. In the last three lap sprints Goullett made a wonderful effort and, just managed to boat Lawson, with Clark close up third. Goullott and Hehir (International) were first, Lawson and Mitten (America) second, Clark and McNamara (Australia) third, Walker and Grenda (Australia) fourth, Gascoyne and Lloyd (International) fifth.
The distance covered was 2023 miles, against 2086 miles in the Sydney race, which was won by the same team.-SHOT-PUTTING RECORD. (Received 26, 8.5 a.m.) New York, February 25. At San Francisco Ralph Rose broke the -world’s record for putting the shot, sending it 50ft 2iu.
