HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. Another large audience witnessed the second screening of Thursday s change of programme at His Majesty s Theatre last night. The comic films, v . t consisted of “Weary Wi lie” 1,.'/ “Tired Tim” as Wild Westers, :i:id “Foolshcad, Somnambulist, were far above the average, while the comedy entitled “Madellian’s Rebellion, wis of an extremely interesting nature. The French Naval Disaster also met with a good reception. The dramas, which were all of a high standard, were watched eagerly from start to finish. The next drama was entitled “One of Nature’s Noblemen, m iwh : ch a quarrel is picked between John and Clay about Helen at a dance room, and a ding-dong go is indulged in. The story is a very exciting one. The star drama, entitled “The Battle ” a story of the American Civil War, is a picture full of incidents, and one that should not be missed, as a finer picture has never been shown, and really worth the admission money alone. The London Zoo, from an educational point of view, is one of the finest that could be screened. It shows animals of all descriptions and sizes, such as the crested porcupine, emus, sea lions, penguins, secretary bird, Polar bears, elands, hornbills, Spoonbills, pelicans, diving birds, terrapin, snakes, camels, dromedaries, elephants, toad, crocodiles, bison, antelopes, peacocks, racoons, crowned cranes* Hissar bull, Llama, gazelles, ■ and rhinoceris, which was presented by King George when Prince of Wales, and numerous other animals. “Five Graceful Girls,” as far as vaudeville acts are concerned, was of an interest- 1. ;ng character, as also was “Baby and \ the Bomb,” the plotter in this par- , iioular case, coming off second best. The programme will be repeated this evening for the last time,. 1 ' The following big change of pictures ■; will be shown on Monday evening:— Dramas, “The Backwoodsman’s Suspicions,” “Sunshine and Shadow,” “Her Son,” and the big star picture “Mexican Joan of Arc”; Second Aus-, ', tralian Gazette, showing the Hobart Regatta and leading incidents throughout the colony. Tne comic and scenic films are of the finest, and comprise “The Demon Dog,” “The Baron Curing a Grauch,” “Royan and Environs,” and “The New Operator.”
ROSIN A BUCK MAN.. , Referring to Miss Rosina Buckman, who is to, appear, in Stratford next ! 1 ' wpek, a , Melbourne paper ; writes ! hear that Miss Rosina; Buckman, of .. ~j the Grand, Opera Co., -whose sweet i-vpi.ee is now. delighting your eart, has' ' the chance of her life through'the in-*' strumentality of Madame Melba. Melba is said to be so charmed with .Miss 3uckman’s work with the Opera Co. and: ■ she, see^/suck. a future before the young singer that she strongly advises her at all costs to go to Italy and study opera. Melba will then do all n her power to place her on the way to a brilliant operatic career. Rosina ,3uckm.au is a , New Zealand girl (you w - can always trust the. New.. Zqalander to come, to the front in this country), and her first appearance here was in ; an opera written by her countryman, Alfred Hill. After that she made a very successful appearance "with Musgrove’s English Opera Co., playing the parts of Maritana, Marguerite fn Gounod’s “Faust” and Leonora in “Trovatore.” This present appear-an-'o with, grand opera artists of worldwide reputations has been looked upon as a great feather in the young singer’s cap, and Melba’s approval more than justifies her inclusion in the company. Now there should be no limit to her ambition. In two or three months’ time Marshall Hall intends putting his opera “Stella” on the boards. It is dedicated to Melba, and the name part is to be created by Ros.na Buckman. We wish her muen success. !
