SWIMMING NOTES.

| (By Amphi Bios.) - The committee of the Swimming 1 Club met last night, and things generally were boosted along a good bit. A letter from Inglewood conveyed information, that the club hoped to hold a big open evening carnival in about three weeks’ time. The following officers were appointed to look after the cup race (150yds) on Thursday:—Judges, Messrs. W. P. Kirkwood and D. J. Malone; starter, Mr. E. B. Stohr; timekeeper, Mr. J. F. Watson; call stewards, Messrs. A. J. Davoy and C. S. Potts. It was decided that, in order to give everybody a chance to enter, nominations for the championship cup should close to-night at 7 o’clock. If a swimmer peruses the cup regulations for five minutes and then thinks for about fifteen minutes, he will see the force of entering. Officers for the carnival on .the evening of March Ist were appointed as follows:—.Referee, Dr. Carbery; starter, Mr. E. B. Stohr; timekeeper, Mr. J. F. Watson; dive judge, i Mr. C. E. Seabright; call stewards, j Messrs. D. J. Malone, A. J. Davey, and F. M. Marlow; gatekeepers, M essrs. 1). J. Malone and D. -Finlay. The club handicappor forwarded a long letter suggesting a new form of handicapping. The committee decided that the handicapper be recommended to commence the new system next season. In the next notes the new system will probably bo explained, in order to give swimmers an opportunity of digesting it. A letter was received from the organiser of the Sports Protection League notifying a meeting in Stratford on Monday next. A sub-committee was appointed to take any necessary action. The programme for the evening carnival to bo held in Eltham on February 27th has been posted at the bath. All the races are open. The men’s distances are 50yds, 100yds, 75yds, and 225yds. There is a 50yds race for boys under 10, and a 50yds race for ladies. Those nominating should bear in mind that performances must be forwarded with nomination fees. Nominations close next Saturday at 8 p.m. Hot coffee, the handbill says, will be available for competitors. This feature should be one of the most popular of the meeting. / The following have entered for the Chainnion Gup:—L. Curtis, E. H. Kivelf, B. V. Kivell, J. H. Masters, 1). Twohill, C. S. Kelly, -H. Priestley, T. Babone, C. G. Whittington, E. C. Jebb, L. Toeker, C. Bennett, A. Prentice, Malone, P. Willson. The handicaps for the 150yds distance; to be swum to-morrow, will be available soon. „
