YESTERDAY’S PROCEEDINGS. *Por Press Association.) Gisborne, February 15. The North Island band contest was continued to-day. Results : 't rombone trios, “How Merrily We Live” (W. Short). —Westport Garrison, 49 points, 1; Wanganui City,4B, 2; Waihi Federal, 46, 3. Quartettes, “Forester, Sound Thy Cheerful Horn”, —Wanganui City No. 1, 48 points, 1; Gisborne City No. 1, 47, 2; Gisborne City No. 2, 46; Waihi No. 1, 46; Palmerston North No. 2, 45; Palmerston North No. 1, 44 ; Westport, 44; 'Waihi No. 2, 43; Wanganui No. 2, 43. At tho band contest this afternoon the quickstep competition came off. For tho A grade tho piece was “For King and Kingdom,” and for B grade “Our Sailor King.” Results:—
A Grade.—Palmerston North Municipal, 251 points, 1; 'Waihi Federal, 240 J, 2; Westport Garrison, 223;}, 3. B Grade.—Wanganui City, 236 points, 1; Gisborne City, 229}, 2; Wliangaroi Municipal, 225}, 3. Tho maximum points were 280. "Gisborne, February 16. Tenor born solo: L. Jacobs, Wanganui City, 49; W. Norman, Gisborne City, 48. iTen competitors. BB flat bass solos: R. Spurdle, Wanganui City, 19; J. Neighbours, 'Westport Garrison, IS. Five competitors. Tho side <1 rum competition will bo taken this afternoon and the final tost in the evening.
The weather is wot, and probably the test will bo held indoors.
Waihi is loading in the A grade for the Besson shield with 121 1-5 points, Palmerston North being next with 116, and Westport 110 1-5. Gisborne and W/iangarei are running very close for tho Boosoy shield in tho B grade. Gisborne scored 105 2-5 and Whangarci ,101, Wanganui 93 3-5. The modal for drum major in A grade was won by Sergeant-Major Perrin of Palmerston North and the B grade by Sergeant-Major Anderson, Wanganui.
