FURTHER COMPETITIONS. (Per Press Association j Gisborne, February 13. At the North Island band contest to-day in the E Flat Bass solo, the judge admitted that the many competitors had sot him a hard task, and it had been .a case of splitting straws to arrive at a correct decision, and the result was as follows:—P. Johnstone (Gisborne City), 48 points, 1 ; M. Codyre (Westport Garrison), 47 points, 2. M. Hale (Westport Garrison) 46, J. Baxter (Waihi Federal) 46, W. Penhall (Wanganui City) 40, H. Calkin (Whangarei Municipal) 45, E. A. Parr (Whangarei Municipal) 44, C. Webster (Gisborne City) 44, E. Meath (Waihi Federal) 43, F. Tnnnisliffe (Wanganui City) 42. This evening the B Flat Cornet solo, “At the Break of Day” (Ord Plume)’ was decided. The; judge was somewhat disappointed, however, at the playing. The following was the result : G.
