DISCOVERS A DROWNED MAN’S BODY.

Gisborne, February 9 The body of Ernest Vernon Sweet, drowned on the Waikanae beach last evening, was discovered at 1 o’clock tins morning under strange circumstances. Shean, a resident living half a mile from the beach, was awakened by the loud and persistent barking of his dog. He went out and spoke to the clog, which led him in the direction of the beach. There, Shean, hy the bright moonlight, saw a dark object being tossed about in the breakers. This ho pulled ashore and discovered to be the ' body of Sweet. Sweet' 1 ' was : wcll-khown throughout New Zealand as a traveller for typewriters; He was a brilliant billiard exponent.
