’The public mooting to consider the Borough Council’s loan proposals will he held on Tuesday next. Misses Dolly and Stasia Fitzgerald left yesterday for .New Plymouth, where they will attend the Convent school. Mr. Joseph McClnggage returned to Stretford by last night’s mail train from a trip to tho West Coast of the Sontii Island. The railway station yard presented a- busy scone this morning, a hundred and fifty veal calves being put into six trucks. 'They were consigned by Mr. S. F. Pratt, Stratford, to tho Fatea Freezing Works, and made the first shipment this year from Stratford. The calves went forward by the 3 o’clock train. Another successful practice of “Pinafore” was held on Monday evening, but- not quite so many as could be desired were present. The Society has mapped out a plan which will make the practices too few unless there are full attendances. By practising regularly right up to the day of presentation it is hoped to ensure a good performance. The twenty-ninth annual conference )f the Congregational Union of New Zealand commences at Palmerston co-day, the Rev. A. E. Hunt, Timarn, retiring chairman, presiding ovPr"Lhe initial proceedings.
