SERIOUS BUSH FIRES

The’ long spell of exceptionally hot and dry* weather is still unbroken. There aro many very high thermometer readings in the interior. Adelaide, February 3.
The heat wave continues, the reading being 113 in.the city. Confectionars have closed their shops, as it is too hot to work. The bush fires in the hills are the worst for twenty /oars. There is widespread destruction. A number of residences and uany orchards have been destroyed vnd beauty spots have been devastated. Melbourne, February 3. The heat is intense. The seashore for ■nibs is lined with residents sleeping out. There were destructive fires ’n the Dandonong ranges and other iistricts. Four houses wore destroydfat Sunshine. . Lanncoston, February 3.
The thermometer is 101, the highest ;iij.ee 1006. ; The country is enveloped •a dense smoke. There were bush fires n all directions.
