Sydney, February 3
The Salvation Army has opened a new City Temple in Goulbourn Street, at a cost of £10,500. (Received 5, 10.35 a.m.) Sydney, February 5. Noumeau advices state that the overdue steamer France is safe.
Melbourne, February 5. A fire was discovered by a passenger while a train was in motion. The train was pulled up. Thirty-five passen gers in two corridor cars made a hurried exit and lost all their belongings. 'Hie cars were completely destroyed. The damage is £3500. The cause is unknown, but was probably bush fires. The Methodist local preachers in the Castlomaino district struck owing to a dispute with the superintendent ministers. Some services lapsed. (Received 5, 8.30 a.m.) Hobart, February 5. The general election first ballots take place on April 30th. Perth, February 5. Brown, of the Singer Company, informed the Court that he had a complete answer to the charges against him.
