Large areas of grass, farm buildings, homesteads and stock have been destroyed. (Due fire on the Victorian Ranges is seven miles long. One farmer lost 400 sheep. An apiarist, Payne, lost his home and three hundred hives of bees. Many fire-fight-ers were overcome by heat. Some were badly burned and others injured by falling limbs. Vessels were delayed owing to heavy smoke off the coast. In some cases they wore compelled to anchor for safety. SHIPPING DELAYED. (Received 5, 8.5 a.m.) Hobart, February 5. There are destructive bush fires in the bills around the city. Three cottages ami a box factory at Gardner’s Bay were destroyed. There are similar reports from many parts of the island, . is dislocated. There is dense smoke on the coast and the heat is intense.
