Newton King has been favoured with instructions from Mr. J, Douglas Perrett the well known artist to sell' by public auction on Saturday February 10th,. a splendid collection of oil, pastel, and watercolour paintings, also other high class works of Art. On Wednesday, February 21st, Messrs. Alatthews and Bennett hold a sheep fair and cattle sale at Inglewood. Messrs. Matthews anl Bennett sell 2000 mixed sheep at their Mafcau supplementary sheep fair on Saturday, February 24th. Entries to date for Messrs. Alatthews and Bennett’s Tarata sheep fair are advertised. Messrs. Matthew's and Bennett hold a stock sale at Inglewood on Wednesday, February '7th. On February 16th, Alessrs. .Alatthews and Bennett hold a horse fair at Inglewood. The Alessage of the Ecumenical Conference will be read .in 100,000 Methodist Churches to-morrow’. The llev. C. C. Harrison will conduct the family service 11 a.m.) and people’s service (7 p.m.), at Wesley Church. Loan and Alercantile Agency Co., Ltd., hokh their monthly horse fair at Tattersall’s, Ha worn, on Saturday next, February 10th. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. hold a sheep, fair at their cards on Atbnday next. Mr. John I). Hcaly invites tenders for the erection of a residence on Juliet Street.
Yet another sio; 11 of the progressiveness of, our townspeople is shown by in advertisement appearing on another page of this issue, where the firm of Messrs Wilson and Son, announce that they are giving the name “The Clolden Horse” to their saddlery shop in Broadway just opposite Messrs McMillan and Eredric. On calling upon the firm this morning our reporter could not help being struck with the heavy and varied lines in leatherwork displayed, Mr. Wilson, dunr. who is managing this shop told our representative that to give full effect to their distinctive name, they have now on the way out from England an Old English sign of a horse gilt with IS carat gold leaf, and they hope to be able to erect it in the course of a few weeks. Mr. Wilson stated that their business extends over a radius of nearly 100 miles, and he hopps to be able to extend yet more.
