At the Supreme Court to-day) Geo. Alfred Tracey pleaded guilty to three charges of stealing .carpenters’ tools, and one of stealing ' carriage 'amps. Counsel asked 'for leniency, as the prisoner had previously borne a good character. He is now in hospital, l aving undergone an operation. Mr. Justice Chapman said ho did not think be would admit prisoner to probation. He would like to hear that restitution had .bden made) apart from’ the goods. recovered. The case might be mentioned"'Again on Monday. In the meantime the prisoner might return to the hospital. February -3. Tc-dav Mr. .Justice Chapman sentenced Lewis Witten, aged 44, for indecent assault and exposure, to five years and one year respectively (cumulative) ; George Cecil Coleman. 19, theft of postal packets at Nelson, three months; Henry Hay, 23; seafarer, who stole money from a man who had been displaying money in a hotel, was admitted to probation on condition that he abstained flora liquor.
