SWIMMING.

A very successful carnival was held at Hawera last night, the attendance and the racing being both excellent. The carnival was run as a benefit to the lessee of the baths (Mr, Mather) in consideration of the small attendances at the baths as a result of indifferent weather. A satisfactory sum was handed over to the lessee. A party of Stratford swimmers were present. In the first heat of the 7o yards open race Curtis came second, and in the second heat E. Kivell and Masters were first and third respectively. In the final Kivell was placed first, the other places being filled by Jim Grant and Spratt. Stratford was well represented in the 125 yards open race, out Hawera men filled all the places, Cecil Kivell now of Hawera, won the Junior Cup, got second in the Novice Race, and was second in the open diving.
