Following is tlie High Commissioner’s cable elated London January 27. th (quotations unless otherwise specified are average market prices on spot) : Mutton—The market is quiet. Trade in mutton is very disappointing, there being only a very hand-to-mouth demand. Although there is a very limited supply buyers are not inclined to make forward purchases of mutton at present prices in anticipation of heavy arrivals, but holders are frm. North Island 4id) Australian 3RI, River Plato 3kl.

Lamb.—There is good demand for all lamb. River Plate lamb is of better quality than last year. New Zealand lamb, other than Canterbury, average 6fd, Australian 4|d, River Plate 4Jd. Beef.—The market is very firm, and is affected by the decrease in arrivals. The N.Z. stock is almost exhausted. N.Z. hinds 4 id, fores 4cl. The small quantities on hand have sold at this price. Butter.—The market is quiet, hutholders are firm, as a moderate'' supply is expected, and an increasing quantity going to the Continent. The average price for the week for choicest N.Z. butter is 131 s, Australian 12Ss, Argentine 128 s, Danish 1355, Siberian 1295.

Cheese.—The market is firmer, with more demand. The average price for the week for finest N.Z. cheese is:— White 72s 6d. coloured 71s 6d, English cheddar 90s.

Hemp—The market is a shadq_weaker. Very heavy shipments are expected from Manila. The market is dependent on Manila reports. N.Z. (.rood fair grade on spot, per ton £2l 10s, fair grade £2O 10s; fair current Manila £2l ss. Forward shipment: N.Z. good fair £2l 15s. fair £2O 15s. fair current Manila £22. The output from Manila for the week‘was 31.000 bales.

Wool.—The market for merino is a shade weaker. Tiie crossbred market remains firm.

Cocksfoot Seed.—Tlie market is firm.
