In the final match for the Sheffield Shield, Victoria, in the first innings totalled 129. Armstrong 51 and Smith 20 weve 'the chief scorers. EeJleway took three wickets for 18, Hazlitt three for 50, Emery two for 42, and. Cotter two for 17. New South Wales for seven wickets scored 210. Gregory -18, Bardsley 23, Minnett 65 ‘{not out), Emery 22, Cotter 58 (not out). PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. oanterburyTTwellington . Christchurch, January 26. The Blanket Shield match, Canterbury v. Wellington, was commenced this afternoon in fine, weather, and on a perfect wicket. Canterbury won the toss, and batted first, making an excellent start. They had: 100 up for one wicket, but, this" good average was not maintained, four being down for 113. 1 hen Rees and Hickmott. made a sood stand, taking the score to 170. Then the wickets felt cheaply, until eight were down for 228. . But a good stand was put up by Patrck and Boxshall, which took the total- to 274; the innings closing three runs later. Patrick batted very soundly hut Lusk was very lucky % giving no-less--than three chances, Hickmott played a chanceless innings, and showed., capital punishing strokes.
