ESSAY COMPETITION.

IN CONNECTION WITH THE RECENT SHOW.

Mr It. G. Whetter, inspector under the Taranaki Education Board, who acted as judge, has forwarded the following report to the secretary of the A. and P. Association (Mr E. Jackson) in connection with tho prize for tho best children’s essay regarding the recent show (the pseudonyms of the writers being quoted in the first place):— The following is tho order in which, the essays have been placed:— Glass A. Ist, “La Pa coll e,” Francis McAllister. 2nd, “Diogenes.” N. V. Hodgson. 3rd, “Ake,” Mary E. Rogers. 4th, “Liber,” Elsie Laurenson. Class B. Ist, “Amyas Leigh,” D. Paterson, Tarata. 2nd, “Pharaoh,” J. T. Mills, Denbigh Road. 3rd, “Pollux,” Percy Aish, Bird Road.

4th, “Homer,” E. G. Casey, Denbigh Road. It was difficult to differentiate between “Amyas Leigh” and “Pharaoh” those essays being almost equal. According to my usual practice, I have not marked on any essays tho errors made, my corrections being noted on a separate sheet of my own. I mention this in case any competitor may lie puzzled to find no correction marks on his essay.
