AVELLINGTON MEETING

AAbrilingtou, January 24. The third and concluding day’s racing of the Wellington Racing Club s summer meeting took place in line weather to-day. . A few light showers fell during the early part of the moiniug, but had no effect on the going, winch was brilliant. The attendance was fair, and the betting’brisk. On che last event over £SOOO was invested. Some good racing the fight for second honours in the hummer Handicap being ' very fine, five horses finishing almost in a line. The two-year-old event again went to Styx, the son of Achilles, the Hon. J. DOrmond’s Birkenhead filly Glade falling second place. The Highdeji. stable did well at the meeting, securing seven wins. - The totalisator figures for the day were £2q,549.105, as against £16,313 10s for >the. corresponding day last year, making a total for the three days of £83,316, as compared with £52,004 for last summer meeting. Selling Plato, six. furlongs.—All Guns, 8.8, 1; Bally Shannon, 8.0, 2; Big Blast, 8.0, 3. Also started,; Laius, Kingswell,' Palestine, rindi Aemari-SiO,-Papatiro and Biddy 7.7. All Guns won all the way by a length and a half. Time, Imin 16 2-ssec. The winner was sold to J. AVaiwefa for 105 guineas. Kaitoki Handicap, five furlongs Sanguinary, 8.9, 1; Emma', 7.10, 2; Makara, 8.10, 3. Also started: Gay Lawless 8.1, Lady Kilcheran 8.0, Wee Rose 7.6, Aratiatia 7.4, Kirkby 7.2, Inveran 6.10 ? Sir Donald and Abercoed 6.7. Emma led the field to the distance. Then Sanguinary went to the front, and won by half a length. Time, Imin 2 l-ssec.
Consolation Handicap, one mile and a quarter.—Odessa, 6.10, 1; Midnight Sun, 9.0, 2; Masterpiece, 9.0. 3. Also started: Coromandel 8.9, Mondip 3.7, Flingot 7.9, Splash 7.2. Odessa went out early and was followed by Coromandel and Mondip. At the six furlong post Odessa was two lengths dear of the field. Then came Mendip, Coromandel, Masterpiece, and Midnight Sun. Entering the straight the order was the same, Midnight Sun going up to second place opposite the stand. Won by a length and a half. Time, 2min 9sec. City Handicap, six furlongs.—Doar>st, 8.3, 1; Full Rate, 8.7, 2; Royal Scotch. 8.5, 3. Also started: Gladiole 9.1, Gipsy Belle 8.8. Hernria 7.13, Kohinoor 7.0, Outward 6.12, Deploy and Purakau 0.7. Outward made most of the rnnn'np. being displaced in the straight by Dearest, who won comfortably by a length. Gladiole was fourth and Kohinoor fifth. Time, Imin losec. GISBORNE ACCEPTANCES.
