A telegram has been received by the Navigation Department from Wilson’s Promontory tiiat the White Star liner Sue vie, en route to Sydney, from Meljourne, signalled that a lire had bro* -ten out in No. 1 hold. A tug had been sent to the vessel’s assistance. Sydney, January 19. A wireless message has been received that the tire on the Suevic has been put out. Melbourne, January 19. The Suevic has arrived in Port Phil--1 p, and her passengers were landed. Ine latest report stated that the fir© was still burning. EIRE DISCOVERED ON THURSDAY EVENING. CARGO DAMAGED SERIOUSLY. (Received 20, 8.50 a.m.) Melbourne, January 20. The Suevic’s fire started in five hunIred tons of copra and tallow in the lower hold on Thursday night. After several hours’ fighting it was supposed t was checked, but it again broke out. )n arrival the wharf tug, equipped with fire-fighting apparatus, tackled lie outbreak and continued pouring water into the hold until late yesterlay. It is reported that valuable cargo has been damaged seriously. The amount is not stated.
