A DISPUTED MARRIAGE.
CLAIM THAT A CEREMONY WAS NOT BINDING. ALLEGED IRREGULARIHES. (Received 18, 10.55 a.m.) London, January 17. Mr. Justice Kenny, at Dublin, held that the Ussher marriage was invalid in the eyes of the Roman Catholic Church. It was yet capable of being validated, but was already absolutely valid according to the marriage laws of Ireland. The petition was for nullity of marriage on the grounds that Ussher, petitioner, being a member of the Roman Catholic Church, in a bedroom in his house at 10 p.m., went through a ceremony purporting to be the ceremony of marriage with Mary Caulfield, employed as housemaid in petitioner’s house. Petitioner further stated that the marriage was null and void, as only one witness was present. The ceremony was not carried out according to the rites, ceremonies, and regulations of the Roman Catholic Church. The petition was dismissed, with costs.
