LAND BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Land Board was held yesterday. There wore present: Messrs AV. Armstrong, Commissioner (presiding), J. Heslnp, W. L. Kennedy, and J. McCluggage. Transfers. The following transfers were dealt with:— C. Shitrop to C. Skitrop and G. Jenson, section 8, block 11, Upper Waifca ra. —(A pp roved. T. Thompson to T. and T. H. G. W. Thompson, section 4, block 3, Waro. —Recommended for approval. Leases to Issue. The following improved farm settlors applied for their leases:— B. Boult, section 18, block 2, Ohura.; R. H. H. Hickoy, section 1, block 4, Tatoro.—Resolved that leases be issued accordingly, Hickey’s to bo dated January Ist, 1912. Ranger’s Report. The ranger’s report on selectors in Tangitu, 1.F.5., non-resident, was road.—Resolved that the action of tho Commissioner in forfeiting the interests of A. AV. King, R. Cleaver, J. Morgan, and J .H. Brown, be confirmed. Defaulters. The following selectors have not complied with tho conditions of improvement : T. AV. Moorby, section 8, block 16, Pouatn; F. J. Moorby, section 3, clock 4, Mahoe.—Mr Moorby, sen., one of the selectors, appeared and explained the reason for deficient improvements.—Resolved that the explanation is satisfactory, and that one month be allowed in which to commence further improvements, which must be completed within six months. G .E. Wilson had pot complied with the resolution of the Board dated 20tli September last, to either reside on section 4, block 10, Pouatn, or transfer to shine eligible person. He applied to sublet to E. McLoughlin.— Resolved that provided an appiication is made in proper form the Board will consider it. Resumption of a Section. The Board_ discussed a memo, from the Under-Secretary of Lands regarding the proposed resumption of part section 1,2, and 32, block 1, Mirai.— Resolved that in tne opinion of this Board the relief proposed to be givon to this tenant should be carried out. The land is absolutely useless for cultivation. The tenant .has . been,' paying rent and taxes upon ib for 14 years, and the part ' proposed to be resumed is a suitable addition,to the adjoining for3st reserve; the rent of his land to lie reduced pro rata according to the area resumed. Education Reserves. Tho following transactions in* education reserves were considered by the Board:— Transfer.—Samuel Blake to S. E. Tonies, section 4, # block 9, ,Opaku..— .Approved YubjecV to* "all paphi’s being in order. t Mortgages.—J. and P. O’Connor to New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Office £2350, and M. I. Jury to;s:lrhe, £47s.—Approved. General. Messrs Hatrick and Co., Ltd., applied on behalf of H. Batchelor to purchase section 3, block 15, Ohura.— Resolved that tho Board has no power to dispose of the land privately as requested, but that it be offered for sale or selection under part 3 of the Land Act, 1908, at a capital value of £SOO, weighted with first and second mortgages and £42 ,10s improvements, to oe paid in cash. The Ohura. Co-operative Dairy Company wrote asking to have thirds expended on road fronting section 2, Clock 9, Ohura.—Resolved to forward a copy of the letter to the Ohura County Council, and request them to expend the thirds as approved bv the Board.

AA r . A. Cleaver applied for a reduction in ront on his lease of sections 1 and 2, block 2, Pouatn.—Resolved that the rent remain at 2s per acre per annum.

E. A. Meredith, assistant Crown lands ranger, wrote recommending adding section 28, block 11, Mapara" to section 23, adjoining, to improve tho building site on the latter section. —Resolved that tho report be adopted.

The Commissioner submitted a schedule of tenants in arrears with rent. —•Resolved that the Commissioner request authority to sue for recovery of all rents two or more instalments in arrears.

Tho Commissioner brought np the question of the forfeitnreof section 4, block 7, Mahoe; AV. B. Read.—Resolved that action be stayed, as the mortgagees are taking steps to sell under powers of mortgage. AV. Davis applied to deviate a creek through section 5, block 21, town of Mangaroa.—The ranger’s report was read, and it was resolved to inform the applicant that it is a matter for the local body to deal with.

The ranger made a suggestion with regard to a site for a nightsoil and rubbish depot near the town of Mangaroa.—Resolved that the Board will consider an application for a site for a rubbish depot only.

It was decided to obtain a ruling upon the question whether thirds may be used in erecting a • bridge over a stream, not on the road loading to the section, but necessary to give access to tlio land on the other side of the stream.

'I 1 . Ryan appeared before the Board and asked for a rehearing of Ids application to transfer sections 169 and 171, block b, Mahoe, to W. Abbott.— Resolved that the Board sees no reason to alter its previous decision. W. G. Malone applied for extension of time to register transfer of part section 107, block 2, Ngaire, P. G. Brooking to Jas. Shaw; also of J. W. Paulger to J. R. Parkinson, section 110, block 2, Ngaire.—Resolved that one month’s extension be granted. J. G. Buchanan applied to under lease part section 107, block 2, Ngaire, to S. Med calf.—Approved. A. Corbett applied for the freehold of section 9, block 11, Capo.—Approved. The Board adjourned at 4 p.m.— “News.”
