RABBIT TRAPPERS’ STRIKE

The Lithgow union has replied to Hoskins’ proposals for the settlement of tho iron-workers’ dispute xo the effect that there are still a number of persons in the employment of the firm with whom the unionists positively refuse to work, If these were removed they are sure a satisfactory settlement is arrangoable. They arc prepared to confer on that basis. From the fact that the union’s appointed representatives on. the Sydney Labour Council are sending a delegate to New Zealand, it appears that a settlement is not expected.

DISSATISFIED COAL TRIMMERS. (Received 16, 10.35 a.m.) Brisbane, January 15. Tho coal trimmers .are dissatisfied with tho now award and a hundred and fifty have struck. Two steamers are hold up. They want one and ninepence instead of one and sixpence an hour in the fixed award. The employers declined to confer witli tho men on these matters. HAIRDRESSERS ON STRIKE. (Received 16, 10.35 a.m.) Sydney, January 16. The hairdressers employed in shops where the Wages Board’s hours are not observed have struck. About sixty men are out. THREATENED COAL STRIKE. (Received 16, 10.35 a.m.) London, January 15. " A ballot taken by Scottish miners showed that a five-sixths majority was in favour of a strike. In South Wales 103,00 voted for and 18,000 against the strike. NAPIER WATERSIDERS. Napier, January 16. A meeting of waterside workers was held last evening to consider matters connected with the present dispute. Tho meeting was not open to the press, but the secretary, seen by a reporter, said; “There is nothing to make public, but the, position is serious.”
