LIGHTING THE COAST.

(Per Press Association.) Auckland; January 16. The Hon. J. A. Millar, interviewed hy the “Star’s” Rotorua correspondent, said that it had been decided to at once proceed with the erection of a light at'North Caps, but the Department had no intention of erecting a light at the Three Kings. Reminded of the Auckland shipmasters’ resolution that a Tight at the Kings was absolutely esaent'al, Mr. Millar, replied that the officers of the Department had gone thoroughly into the matter, ind were of opinion that it would -,-rve no good purpose. It would be useless in a fog. while in clear weather the Kings were so high that tney were plainly discernible- and did not constitute a danger like low-lying rocks. He considered only one course of action ouon, which was to establish a fog-s : gnalling apparatus and reon ire" vessels to be fitted with receivers. The Department was now -negotiating with the International Signalling Company. .
