HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, January 15. Following-is-. The High Commission-i, fir’s cable dated London, January 13th(quotations, unless otherwise sjaecified, are average market prices on spot): — Mutton.—The marketAslipivs f ndf> much change. The tendency is slight-ly-in favour of buyers. Canterbury nominally 4-Jd, North Island 4£d. Lamb.—Tne market is very quiet-as a result of heavy arrivals. Australian 4Jd, Argentine 4Jd. Nine thousand carcases of New Zealand have arrived and are selling at ssd. Beef.—The beef market is very strong. It is affected by uncertainty regarding the Argentine strike. Supplies are decreasing. New Zealand ninds 3Jd, fores 3d. " Butter. —The market is very firm. The demand for spot is good and also for “to arrive.” Tne average’ price for the week for -choicest N.Z. butter per cwt jwas 1355, Australian 1325, Argentine 131 s, Danish 1395. The arrivals of butter during December were 5000 tons less than for December of last year. The imports of butter into the United Kingdom during December, 1910, amounted to 21,141 tons.
Cheese.—The market is very firm and there-is a general active demand. The market shows signs of strength. Tile average price for- the week for choicbst N.Z. cheese per cal was 73s 6d. The arrivals of cheese during December amounted to 3500 tons loss than in December last. The imports of cheese into the United Kingdom during December, 1910, amounted to 10'319 tons. Hemp.—The market remains firm. It has been favourably affected by the Mexican Government’s sisal agreement. New Zealand* good fair grade on spot £22, New Zealand fair grade £2l, forward shipment at same price. Fair current Manila on spot £22, forward shipment fair curent Manila £23. The output from Manila for the week was 27,000 bales. Wheat.—The market is quiet. New Zealand long-berried wheat spot ex granary per quarter of 4961 b 35s 6d, short-berried wheat 355. Oats.—There is a good demand for all descriptions. The supply falls short of demand. Now Zealand oats short sparrowbills ex granary spot per quarter of 3841 b 24s 6d, Danish per quarter 32011) 20s. Cocksfoot seed.—The market is very firm. Woo],—The market remains firm.
