Tho bride intended to omit the promise to obey from tne service, but tiie Archbishop of Canterbury, reading tne announcement in the newspapers, informed the chaplain that the omission would render tho validity of the marriage doubtful. The chaplain accordingly stated from the altar that ho was obliged to read tho complete service, though he hoped the law would be reformed.
