“A NIGHT W l' BURNS.”

SCOTTISH SOCIETY FORMED IN STRATFORD. DATE FOR DINNER FIXED.

The following letter which has been circulated among Scotsmen of this town explains itself:— It has been suggested by a number of Scotchmen in this town that _ a movement may be set on foot wit - view to bringing Scotchmen in closer touch with eacli other socially, and that it take the shape of a Scottish Soceity, eligible for Scotchmen, and their New Zealand born descendants. I have therefore taken the liberty to approach you on the subject and to solicit your co-operation. Nothing definite has yet been readied but’ a suggestion has been made that we have our first gathering on the 25th. January 'to celebrate the birth of our National Poet, Robbie Burns, and that wo have periodical gatherings on . the anniversaries ei Scotland’s most famous historical event. . I may here state that wo intend to make this society provincial and not for this town only, and that it can be arranged to have gatherings in other centres if thought advisable. I need not point out to you the numerous advantages a society cf this nature holds out for ns Nationally as well as socially. Love and pride of his native land is deeply rooted in every Scottish heart, and in this, this our adopted land, it behoves us to meet each other as often as possible, so that we may keep green iiy our hearts memories of our dear Native Land. I would ask you to let me have a reply as soon as you possibly can, if you are in sympathy with the movement. I shall convene a meeting at an early date to consider the best procedure‘for the futherance of our-aim. Should you know of any Scottish friends who would be willing to help, kindly let me have their names and addresses. Kindly address your replies to me, care 11. D. Cameron, Box 4o Stratford. ' Alec. Henderson. Last night a success-full meeting was held, ami it was decided to hold the Bums dinner on the 25th. of January.
