FIRES.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, January 8. A fire at Pctone yesterday destroyed Pointon’s cycle shop. Pointon was engaged in ■ repairing a motor cycle when the engine exploded and the place burst into flames. Damage was also done to adjoining shops by smoke and water. The place was lined with asbestos, or the whole block, of which the. shop-' was one would have been destroyed. Auckland, January S. A fire broke out in a nine-roomed boardinghouse in Arthur Street, Ponsonby, owned and occupied by Alexander Coutts, last night. Four rooms were ,gutted, and the remainder were much - damaged. .'The house 1 and contents were insured for £SOO.
