Other Yorkshiremen rushed to the rescue. Some Highlanders lixed bayonets, and other smashed bedsteads and used the bars as weapons. Tne melee lasted twenty minutes. A hundred and seventy windows were broken. Finally, the officers, many of whom were in their pyjamas, succeeded in stopping the light. The officers deny that there was a mutiny.
