Because of his refusal to issue a prescription ordering a pint of whisky, a man named Hatfield shot dead Dr. Thornton, a well-known physician at Charleston, West Virginia. The latter was attending an injured person when killed. Hatfield fled, but was captuied. Fearing that he may be lynched, a force of sheriffs are guarding the prison.
