Napier, January 3. The, position at the close of to-day’s play is as follows:

Napier, January 4. lu the tenth round, commenced this morning, interest centres in the games between Hicks and Giles, as upon the result largely depends the championship. Gyles has obtained a commanding position, and is confident of winning, -whilst Hicks is equally certain ho can secure a draw. The other games are not sufficiently advanced to indicate the probable result. The adjourned games played resulted as follows, and brought all the players equal as far as matches finished are concerned:—Kelling drew with Grierson. Kelling beat Connell, Mason beat Severne.
